You will take HD radio und you will like it
Looks like iBiquity’s friends are at it again. According to a story I read yesterday, Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) took time off from Congress’ bipartisan effort to save the economy to introduce a bill that would require satellite and radio receiver manufacturers to include in all receivers sold in the U.S.
Naturally, the bill is said to have bipartisan support of Energy and Commerce Committee House members who co-sponsored H.R. 7157, including Lee Terry (R-NE), Charlie Gonzalez (D-TX), Greg Walden (R-OR), Joe Wilson (R-SC), and Dan Burton (R-IN).
Will this bill pass? Who knows. But if t does, it will certainly represent another case of Congress taking away our ability to make a free choice.
But then, is our free market really free anymore any way?
And, oh, by the way, iBiquity is located in Massachusetts as is Markey’s house district. Bet you’re shocked to hear this.

“Sirius XM Radio (SIRI) trading at 47 Cents, Really?”
“The dirge is just about over for Sirius XM (SIRI). The stock has marched down so far that the market is saying there is little prospect for recovery. The company is plagued by a combination of two things it cannot escape: tremendous debt and a business which has lost most of its growth prospects… Sirius has more than $2 billion in debt. That could not be refinanced today.”

This bill would make little difference, even in the outside chance it ever passes sometime next year - SIRI is about dead. There are also anti-trust laws to be considered, and surely SIRI could beat this in court. The HD chipsets are too large and power-hungry to fit in Satrad receviers. Perhaps, receiver manufacturers would just stop making Satrad receivers that include analog AM/FM, and that would exclude the requirements for HD Radio in this bill - wouldn’t that be ironic. Yea, Marlarky has received $10,000 from the NAB.

I am looking to buy a Jensen JIM-525. Do you think HD Radio is really worth the higher price? I read conflicting things. This site http://www.hdradioreview.com seems to say yes, but looking for more advice. Thanks
